Our Kaupapa

Mahi Rangatira ki te Iwi

Mahi Rangatira ki te Iwi is at the heart of how we work; our commitment to making it work for our people and ensuring there is a clear connection between the aspirations of our whānau, the mahi we undertake and the outcomes we achieve. It asks us to be practical, meaningful and accountable, while ensuring all our mahi is grounded in Tūwharetoa tikanga.

For us, serving our people is not simply about what we deliver. It is about how we listen, how we lead, how we make decisions and how we create lasting value for our iwi. It means understanding what matters to our people, responding with purpose and ensuring our mahi contributes to the wellbeing, strength and future of Tūwharetoa.

Our people are not separate from the mahi, they are the reason for it.

From this commitment, our mahi is guided by three Ngā Ara Matua; strategic pathways. Together, they provide a clear direction for the future we are working towards: an iwi where Ngāti Tūwharetoa live and thrive as Tūwharetoa.

He Whare Hono ō Tūwharetoa building

He Mana Kaitiaki tō te Iwi

We are kaitiaki of our taonga, Taupō Moana, Upper Waikato awa and whenua.

Our identity as Tūwharetoa is inseparable from our relationship with our taonga. Taupō Moana, our awa and our whenua hold our whakapapa, our history and our responsibilities across generations.

Our role as kaitiaki calls us to uphold these relationships, protect the mauri and health of our taonga, and advocate for their sustainable management for generations to come
