Registration With Us
Follow your whakapapa home. He hononga ki te iwi. He hononga ki te kāinga.
Being registered with Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board is about more than having your name on a database.
It is about connection. Connection to your whakapapaConnection to your iwi. Connection to the kaupapa, opportunities and decisions that shape the future of Tūwharetoa.
Whether you live at home, elsewhere in Aotearoa or across the world, your connection to Tūwharetoa remains.
Registration helps us strengthen that connection and ensures we can keep our people informed, involved and connected to the mahi of the iwi.
Wherever you are, your whakapapa connects you home.
Why Register?
Our people are at the heart of everything we do.
Having an accurate and connected iwi register helps us understand who and where our people are, communicate directly with whānau and make sure our mahi continues to respond to the needs and aspirations of Tūwharetoa. When you register and keep your details up to date, you strengthen our ability to connect with you and your whānau.
Registration helps you to:
- Stay connected: Receive important iwi news, pānui, opportunities, hui information and updates about kaupapa affecting Tūwharetoa.
- Have your say: Registration enables eligible iwi members to participate in important democratic processes, including Trustee elections, helping shape the leadership and future direction of the Trust Board.
- Access opportunities: Stay informed about grants, scholarships, programmes, events and other opportunities available to registered members and whānau.
- Strengthen our collective voice: An accurate iwi register strengthens our understanding of our people and supports our ability to plan, advocate and make decisions for the collective interests of Ngāti Tūwharetoa.
- Keep our connections strong: Registration helps maintain connections across generations, ensuring our whānau remain connected to Tūwharetoa wherever life takes them.
Our whakapapa tells us who we are. It connects us to our tūpuna, our whānau, our hapū, our marae and the whenua and wai that have sustained generations of Tūwharetoa.
Registering with the Trust Board does not create that whakapapa, your whakapapa is already yours.
Registration is one way of ensuring that connection is recognised within our iwi systems and that we can continue to connect with you as part of the wider Tūwharetoa whānau. For some, registering may be something their whānau have done for generations.
For others, it may be part of a journey of reconnecting. Both belong here.
You do not need to know everything before you begin. Reconnection can start with a name, a whānau connection, a marae, a hapū or a kōrero passed down through generations.
Your connection matters — and so does keeping it current.
If you have moved house, changed your email address or phone number, changed your name, or simply haven’t checked your information in a while, take a moment to update your details.
Keeping your information current means we can continue to reach you with important iwi information, opportunities and voting information.
If you whakapapa to Ngāti Tūwharetoa and are not yet registered with the Trust Board, we encourage you to register. Registration helps bring you into our direct iwi communications and keeps you connected with opportunities, kaupapa and participation across the Trust Board.
